Together we CAN
We need your help! We have joined forces with Gloucester Rugby and Downtons to launch the ‘Together we CAN’ initiative, designed to support local food banks in the three counties.
Everyone will be aware of the difficult economic times in which we are now living. For some of us, it means cutting back on life’s luxuries, such as an expensive meal out or a weekend break. For others it can mean a daily struggle to survive and put food on the table. There is a growing network of food banks across the three counties, who work with local statutory and voluntary organisations, to provide cans and other provisions to families and individuals who are in difficult circumstances.
‘Together we CAN’ make a difference. On Friday 22nd February Gloucester Rugby are playing against Worcester Warriors at home at the Kingsholm Stadium in Gloucester and we need YOU to come along and bring a can of food to donate to the three counties food banks. You don’t have to be going to the match; Downtons will be waiting outside the main entrance with a distribution vehicle ready to be filled with cans of food for people who urgently need our help.
What CAN I donate?
Cans of food in all shapes and sizes will be gratefully received, but please be mindful that items with short use by dates may not be distributed in time. The sorts of things they desperately need are canned vegetables, canned fish, canned meat and canned puddings.
Where CAN I donate?
Alternatively, cans can be dropped off at the community collection points at the Hereford Times offices, Hereford Cathedral, All Saints Church Hereford, Hereford Town Hall and Hereford Baptist Church. In Worcester, they can be delivered to Worcester Food Bank at Unit 2 Carden Court, Carden Close, Worcester.
How CAN I get involved?
You too could run the initiative in your workplace, school or social club. Simply ask people to donate a can of food on Friday 22nd February as part of your own ‘Together we CAN’ day. Contact your local food bank for details of how to donate. Contact details can be found below.
We will be holding a ‘Together we CAN’ day on Friday 22nd February and inviting every one of our 250 staff to donate a can for the local food bank in Herefordshire. allpay sponsor Gloucester Rugby and we are keen to support initiatives such as this as part of our corporate social responsibility policy; to make the impossible possible for everyone, through social, financial and digital inclusion.
Gloucester Rugby will also be donating £4 from every early bird saver ticket purchased for the Gloucester v Worcester match to be split between the three food banks.
Downtons, who also sponsor Gloucester Rugby, will be collecting and storing all of the cans collected from the appeal and then distributing them to the three food banks using their logistics network.
'Together we CAN' make a difference to people who, without the help of their local foodbank, may be struggling to survive.
