Apprentice case study - Abigail Middlecote
Why did you choose to go down the apprenticeship route?
I was all prepped to go to University however, last minute jitters, I decided not to go and joined allpay, originally in Business Support, then was offered a great opportunity to begin an apprenticeship with Legal, doing what I originally planned to do at uni – law. There are so many positives for apprenticeships and one of the greatest positives (compared to university) is you don’t get the large amount of debt to pay off!
A day in the life of…?
My work life is so diverse, however, day to day, I do admin for the Legal team, and assist the Contracts Team when needed by liaising with Clients and answering allpay related queries. As I am learning on a daily basis, I do assist in legal task under the supervision of my Manager, Paula. Assisting in legal tasks is more challenging however it is something that I enjoy.
What is your most memorable moment or greatest achievement on the apprenticeship programme?
This is hard one as I have only just began my apprenticeship journey. My end goal is to train with CILEx and become a Chartered Legal Executive. I started my journey about 6 months ago studying legal administration, so I think my greatest achievement would be by fast-forwarding in about 4/5 years’ time when I would have hopefully completed my goal of being a Chartered Legal Executive.
What are your top tips for apprenticeship success?
My top tips for apprenticeship success? Hmmm... I suppose the cliché one would be “to work hard.” But no seriously, I would take the opportunity and run with it. It’s down to you how competently you complete you college work, and how well you integrate with your team, supporting the achievements that you will earn, which is something you can be proud of.
What kind of opportunities have opened up for you on your apprenticeship programme so far?
I feel I’ve been able to get more involved with the company being an apprentice. Attending internal events such as national living wage week and the open day back in June. Although, the biggest opportunity for me is the fact I have had the apprenticeship programme offered to me and I have been able to begin to earn and learn, studying the topic I wanted to study at university, something I didn’t think would happen.
