Apprentice case study - Ryan Preece
Why did you choose to go down the apprenticeship route?
When I finished my A levels I had the choice of either university or an apprenticeship. I had two older sisters who both went to university and one had a large amount of debt and the other struggled with moving away from home. I didn’t fancy the thought of having a large debt hanging over me and I wasn’t ready to move away so an apprenticeship seemed right for me.
What kind of opportunities have opened up for you on your apprenticeship programme so far?
I have had loads of opportunities as an apprentice that I would never have had the chance to do before. Simple things like learning and earning are a real bonus. The biggest opportunity that I have been given as an apprentice is the chance to go on the residential trip which is something I’m really excited for.
What are your top tips for apprenticeship success?
The two main tips I would give would be hard work and listen to the people who know what they’re doing. Hard work is a given as the harder you work the more benefits you are going to get. Listening to people has been really beneficial for me as an apprentice as there are loads of people who have loads of useful information to give you that can help with your development as an apprentice.
