Formerly known as Financial Collection Services (FCS) Ltd, allpay began providing swipecard payment facilities to facilitate revenue collection for Local Government and Housing Associations in 1996.
Managing Director and Founder, Tony Killeen, first conceptualised the idea of electronic bill payments whilst collecting rents on behalf of the council:
It was very frustrating working with paper-based bill payment systems. I knew there had to be a better way. This gave me the idea of using technology to speed up the process. What I used to do on paper at the council, we now do with swipe cards. Our system provides convenience and choice for the people paying bills and greater efficiency for any organisation collecting payments.
Through the 1990s Financial Collection Services experienced rapid growth then in October 2000 the company was re-named allpay.net Limited to reflect the electronic core of its business and now offers payment solutions to any industry requiring any kind of revenue collection.
The 2004 re-location of allpay's entire operation to brand new purpose-built premises at Whitestone on the outskirts of Hereford marked the beginning of yet another phase of growth for the company which, in 1996, had just two clients and four members of staff.
November 2006 saw the completion of a second purpose built office and production area. The state-of-the-art facilities are fully air conditioned with modern, open plan offices plus restaurant and gym facilities for staff. allpay boasts its own “nature reserve”, employs over 175 people, provides payment solutions for more than 750 public and private sector organisations and is one of the UK's fastest growing companies.
allpay has always strived to maintain the highest standards in quality and security. In August 2008, allpay was proud to become both PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) compliant – a critical achievement in today’s payment card market. This is in addition to the strict ISO 27001 security accreditation achieved in October 2008 and the ISO 9001 Quality Management System certification already held. Further achievements were becoming a BACS accredited Commercial Bureau and becoming accredited to MasterCard physical security standard.
2008 saw the signing of a sponsorship deal with Gloucester Rugby which still continues. This partnership with the Guinness Premiership club was another opportunity for allpay to strengthen its reputation in a competitive marketplace whilst providing staff the chance to rub shoulders with sporting elite.
In 2009 we officially changed our company name to allpay Limited and celebrated the launch of a new logo. The rebrand was set to take the company into its next phase of growth to visually reflect its technological, innovative and customer-focused philosophy.
As for what the future holds, the coming years are sure to be just as exciting; with a turbulent business marketplace, allpay is already thriving on the challenge of moving onwards and upwards using its famously pioneering outlook.
We are the UK’s newest independent company to achieve full MasterCard accreditation, enabling us to manufacture, chip implant, personalise and fulfil MasterCard Chip and PIN card products.
The company continues to innovate in the payments field, developing its card production arm with the introduction of Prepaid Cards – an exciting addition to its portfolio of products and services.
Existing services such as the Payment Management System 'Callpay' sees reinvestment as allpay continue to evolve and ultimately improve the payments experience for allpay’s growing customer base.
Not satisfied with just providing an extensive range of payment solutions, allpay has now set about enabling more communities across Herefordshire to surf the web using allpay Broadband. allpay recognises that many households, mostly in rural areas, are being digitally excluded simply due to their location. allpay thrives on such challenges using its famously pioneering outlook, and allpay broadband is just one more way the company can make a difference to the community.
